Calcined Bauxite-Shaft bauxite is primarily characterized by its exceptionally high bulk density (typically >3.2 g/cm³) and very low porosity, a result of prolonged static sintering in the kiln. This process yields a product with superior cold crushing strength, exceptional abrasion resistance, and outstanding resistance to slag and metal penetration. While its alumina content is often slightly lower than that of rotary-kiln calcined bauxite of equivalent grade, it remains the preferred aggregate for high-performance refractory castables and plastics where extreme density, mechanical strength, and erosion resistance are critical, such as in steel ladles and iron runners.
